This position is sign-on bonus eligible! Registered Respiratory Therapists are eligible for a $20,000 sign-on bonus with a 1-year commitment for full-time and some part-time positions. Job Summary

Performs all aspects of direct respiratory care according to physician’s orders and/or approved protocols. Consults physicians on the effectiveness of therapy and makes appropriate recommendations. Provides ventilator support and maintains cardiopulmonary life support equipment. Maintains and properly utilizes respiratory care equipment.

Essential Functions
  1. Demonstrates knowledge of various modes and methods of oxygen delivery and the equipment needed for each; conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate oxygenation.
  2. Administers therapeutic procedures, understanding their purpose and benefits, and assesses possible effects. Performs diagnostic procedures as outlined in policy.
  3. Initiates, monitors, and maintains mechanical and non-invasive ventilators; aware of critical care duties and therapy effects.
  4. Evaluates current therapies independently, using appropriate judgment and protocols, and makes proper care and education recommendations.
  5. Documents therapy and results as required; communicates information to the healthcare team.
  6. Initiates, conducts, and modifies respiratory care techniques in emergencies. Performs blood sampling analysis with understanding of values and treatments for abnormal results.
  7. Works independently across patient care areas and assists colleagues. Proficient in electronic medical records and department interface.
  8. Follows safety guidelines and completes all regulatory requirements. Performs annual proficiency evaluations of equipment and procedures.
Physical Requirements

Requires repetitive physical activity, walking, standing, and lifting 20-50 pounds. Ability to move patients of all ages. Adequate hearing and eyesight are necessary. Exposure to odors, low lighting, and crowded conditions may occur.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Care. Associate’s RRT or RRT Equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in North Carolina. BLS required. Advanced certifications per facility policy. For certain units, 2 years of critical care experience required.
