This position is for the Children's Hospital.

Summary

Administers all forms of respiratory care, both critical and general therapy, and manages respiratory and pulmonary care for a designated group of patients. Provides assessments, support, treatment, and diagnostic tests as part of the healthcare team.

Job Duties

1. Conducts evaluation, management, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system.
2. Performs inventory of respiratory equipment and maintains adequate stock.
3. Provides respiratory therapy as ordered by physicians according to established standards and practices.
4. Trains staff including physicians and students in respiratory therapy issues.
5. Performs mechanical ventilator management, Bi-PAP, and respiratory monitoring.
6. Performs emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintains airways, and measures ventilator volumes, pressures, and flows in critical care patients.
7. Performs arterial blood gas studies, pulse oximetry, and interprets results.
8. Educates patients on sleep apnea, CPAP machines, and proper mask fitting, in collaboration with clinical teams.
9. Sets up diagnostic nocturnal sleep screens.
10. Prepares, checks, and administers respiratory medications, charts treatments, responses, and progress.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associate's Degree from an accredited RRT program.
2. Less than 1 year of experience.
3. Ability to provide respiratory therapy methodologies and operate diagnostic equipment.
4. RRT credential and state licensure within 1 year.
5. ACLS certification within 60 days.
6. Basic Life Support certification within 30 days.
7. PALS and NRP certifications within 60 days.
8. RCP licensure upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited RRT program.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs., frequent standing/walking, and activities specific to patient care including kneeling, bending, and performing CPR.
