Job summary

Mercy Health in Lorain is seeking a Radiology Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging under radiologist supervision. You will ensure ALARA practices, document procedures, protect patient privacy, and interact with medical staff and patients to deliver high-quality care.

Preferred ARRT certification and state licensure; familiarity with EPIC EHR and PACS is a plus. This role is on-site at Lorain Hospital with competitive benefits and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree from an ARRT accredited institute (preferred)
• ARRT Certification/Registration in Diagnostic Radiology (required)
• State licensure (preferred where required)
• BLS from American Heart Association (preferred at hire; required prior to independent patient care)
• EPIC EHR and PACS experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient history and lab information for practitioner use.
• Position patient to obtain optimal imaging of the target area.
• Apply ALARA principles to minimize exposure.
• Perform radiographic procedures using imaging equipment.
• Document orders and patient records in the chart.
• Assist with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures.

Radiology Technologist (Harmonized) - Lorain Hospital

Summary Of Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position

The Radiological Technologist is a certified health professional who, under the direction of an authorized user, is committed to applying the art and skill of diagnostic imaging through the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation, in diagnostic radiology.

Essential Job Functions

• Obtains patient's clinical history and appropriate lab work ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
• Positions and immobilizes patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
• Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
• Performs radiographic procedures by selecting and operating imaging equipment, and/or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.
• Verifies informed consent and completes pre and post procedure documentation.
• Assists licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized radiography procedures. Applies appropriate aseptic surgical technique as needed.
• Performs timeout as required per policy.
• Identifies, prepares and/or administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Receives relays and documents verbal, written and electronic orders in the patient's medical record.
• Evaluates images for technical quality.
• Documents patient dose exposures.
• Professionally interacts with physicians, technologist, physician offices, hospital staff, patient family members and patients.
• Operates radiographic equipment and accessories in accordance with the principles of ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable).

Education

• Associate's from an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) accredited institute (preferred)

Certifications

• Certification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Diagnostic Radiology (required)
• State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed)
• BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)

Training

• EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
• Picture archiving communication system (PACS) (preferred)

Experience

• 1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred)
• Experience with Radiology Information System (preferred)
