Rad Tech Medical Assistant -MUST BE REGISTERED ARRT

Monday-Friday No WEEKENDS, NO HOLIDAYS

Performs medical and clinical duties to assist providers in the Family Practice Center. Will be responsible for rooming patients and managing their flow from the front office, to an exam room through discharge. Assists in the care of patients ensuring quality care, physical exams, injury care, radiology imaging and other medical services.

1 Provide direct patient care and treatment a. Prepares patients to be examined by the physician by measuring and recording BP, pulse, temperature, respirations, height, weight, general history and current medication list, recording same in order to facilitate a diagnosis and/or perform physician exams. b. Perform routine lab tests (UAs, strep screens, etc) as ordered by physician c. Performs EKGs, injections, auditory and visual screenings, spirometry, administers medications and records results as ordered by the physician in diagnosing and treating the patient d. Document all clinical findings and patient response to interventions. Provider test results to physicians when available. e. Provide patient care and clinical support to physician during exam. Assists physicians with procedures by preparing the patient and setting up the room and instruments needed for the procedure and returning room to the previous state. f. Responsible for daily inventory of exam rooms and work areas, making sure stock is adequate to facilitate patient care. Responsible for discarding and reporting any outdated or expired supplies to supervisor. Cleans and disinfects exam rooms. Reports equipment malfunction to supervisor. g. Assists with completion of referrals, outpatient testing, pre-certification and scheduling h. Participated in PI studies. * 55%

2 Performs in-office x-rays as ordered by the physicians to facilitate diagnosis a. Must maintain skills/competency of radiology task and able to demonstrate these for the site supervisor b. Responsible for operating digital equipment and monitor. Must know how to operate bucky tray, control panel and wall unit. c. Practice ALARA and patient shielding as necessary * 25%

3 Quality Management and Customer Service a. Responsible for handling patient phone calls and inquiries for clinical staff b. Follow-up or direct all unresolved patient concerns to supervisor in a timely manner c. Return all patient calls/voicemails within one business day d. Performs daily quality control checks and calibrations on equipment and performs proficiency testing when appropriate in order to maintain quality care and treatment. e. Responsible for documenting all calibration records * 10%

4 Successful completion of skills/competency and development * 5%

Performs other duties as assigned. 5%

The associate shall follow the applicable safety steps required to perform their duties to ensure safety for themselves and their patients, and be in compliance with Medical Center, State, and Federal safety standards. Examples of such steps may include: performing proper safety procedures and precautions; reporting safety concerns and incidents; using correct lifting techniques and disposing of sharps and infectious waste properly.

For Clinical and related positions - The associate must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. The associate must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span focused on the assessment, treatment and care of the newborn, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Required: Employee must successfully complete an orientation process that identifies skills needed to practice in their position and in their job assignment. Skill requirements must be met and maintained to ensure employee competency. This is achieved through an annual review of those particular skills and a work improvement plan for any non-compliant area.

1. Physician orders an x-ray to be taken. The RT/MA takes the patient to the radiology room. The RT/MA must decide the appropriate settings to achieve a quality film so that the physician can make an appropriate diagnosis. The RT/MA also must determine if the quality of the image is adequate, that it is of help to the physician, and if not, what can be done to correct the problem.

2. Obtain test results that the physician needs to evaluate the health status and needs of the patient.

3. Patients are calling to be seen, and after triage it is determined they need to be seen and the schedule is full. The patient is to be worked in and the RT/MA is to help facilitate that process.

Qualifications

MINIMUM

  1. Registered by ARRT
  2. Licensed to practice in the state where work is being performed.
  3. Maintain full compliance with all continuing education requirements for license and registration

Specialized Knowledge:

1.Excellent customer service/communication skills

2.Ability to organize time and tasks

3.Demonstrated competency in routine radiography

Kind and Length of Experience:

  1. One year of experience performing x-rays in a physician’s office, hospital or occupational health center.
  2. Relevant clinical experience in a related medical setting
