Job summary

Hilo Benioff Medical Center, part of the East Hawaii Region HHSC, seeks a Registered Nurse III (Trauma PI Specialist) to assist the Trauma Program Manager in overseeing trauma performance improvement and patient safety processes. The role coordinates multidisciplinary teams and delivers education for trauma care orientation and PECC duties.

Qualified candidates demonstrate strong communication and clinical assessment skills, with RN licensure in Hawaii and preferred trauma/emergency care

Qualifications

  • Licensed RN in Hawaii required; BLS provider within 1 month of employment; ACLS and PALS required within 6 months.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing is highly desirable.
  • Experience in trauma or emergency care settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Trauma Program Manager in maintaining the trauma performance improvement and patient safety process (PIPS).
  • Coordinate and facilitate the trauma PI program across all hospital areas involved in injury management.
  • Provide education for trauma care orientation and for new employees; serve as PECC for pediatric emergencies.

The Registered Professional Nurse III (Trauma PI Specialist) is the assistant to the Trauma Program Manager, responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of the trauma performance improvement patient safety (PIPS) process through directing, evaluating and providing feedback to the multidisciplinary trauma team care providers (primary review level). The Trauma PI Specialist is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of the trauma PI program to improve the quality of trauma care encompassing all areas and disciplines of the hospital that participate in the management of the injured patient throughout their entire stay. Additional duties include: trauma specific process and care orientation education for new employees; pediatric emergency care coordinator (PECC).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

EDUCATION: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree is highly desirable.

Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript of diploma) should be submitted with the application to be given credit for education. A legible photocopy will be accepted. However, Hilo Medical Center reserves the right to request an official copy.

EXPERIENCE: One-half (1/2) year of professional nursing work experience, where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients in a clinic, hospital, or institution.

CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is required one (1) month after employment. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certificate with the application. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required six (6) months after employment.

SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION: Of the required one-half (½) year of professional nursing work experience, one-half (½) year of professional nursing experience working in an emergency room setting is required. The required experience must have been gained within the past two (2) years.

LICENSURE: A valid State of Hawaii as a Registered Professional Nurse is required. Evidence of RN license is required with the application.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
