Principal in Charge | Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (Remote/Tennessee)
ABOUT US
We’re a fast‑growing residential building design firm in Tennessee—and until now, we’ve outsourced every land survey. We’re ready to bring surveying in‑house, and we need a seasoned Professional Land Surveyor to build our capability from scratch. If you thrive on ownership, love teaching, and want a flexible, mostly remote role with some field days, let’s talk!
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Launch & Own Our Survey Practice: You’ll design every process—select tools, set up workflows, and define quality standards—to establish a turnkey surveying service.
Teach & Mentor Across the Team: We’re survey‑novices. You’ll train designers, engineers, and project managers on surveying fundamentals, field safety, data collection, and how to interpret results.
Execute & Oversee Surveys: Lead boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking surveys for residential projects. Operate total stations, GNSS/GPS, levels, and other field instruments.
Review & Approve Deliverables: Guide our in‑house draftspeople on producing plats, maps, and reports, then review and sign off.
Ensure Compliance: Keep us on the right side of Tennessee regulations—maintain licensing, handle permitting, and document field notes rigorously.
Collaborate Remotely & On‑Site: Work from home, but travel to job sites statewide to supervise crews, troubleshoot in the field, and validate data.
WHO YOU ARE
Licensed in Tennessee: Active PLS license is a must.
Experienced: 5+ years of hands‑on residential surveying; you’ve “been there, done that” with boundary, topo, ALTA/NSPS, and staking surveys.
Field‑First Mindset: Total stations, GNSS units, levels, LiDAR/drones—whatever the tool, you know setup, calibration, and data‑collection tricks.
Natural Teacher: You enjoy breaking down complex survey concepts for non‑surveyors and building confidence in others.
Self‑Directed: You’ll lead this entire practice.
Startup Spirit: You’re energized by “blank‑slate” challenges and eager to define what “success” looks like for our new service line.
WHAT WE OFFER
Salary Range: $30-$50 per hour
Profit Sharing: Be a part of our success by receiving payments per project.
True Flexibility: Remote‑first role; you choose your schedule, with occasional field days.
Founding Role: Be the principal of our surveying practice—your processes and training will shape our company’s future.
Supportive Culture: A collaborative design team that values growth, autonomy, and work–life balance.
