Job description

OMS Field Services - Registered Professional Forester (RPF) Position

OMS Field Services is seeking a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) to join our team in supporting our clients' Vegetation Management program. The RPF will coordinate with property owners and vegetation management contractors, oversee permit acquisition, conduct pre- and post-inspections, audit vegetation work, and document activities for the program.

Work locations include the North Valley Region and other areas in Northern California.

Essential Functions:
  • Perform duties related to emergency response as requested by the Client Representative, adhering to safety, legal, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide copies of permits obtained, evaluate tree value and risk, and manage hazard tree removal projects involving valuable sawlogs.
  • Offer expert advice on timberland management to optimize land productivity.
  • Patrol designated electric line sections to identify vegetation hazards.
  • Inspect individual jobs to determine work scope and estimate completion time.
  • Obtain property owner permissions prior to vegetation work, especially where rights are unclear.
  • Report any permission or permit issues promptly in writing.
  • Supervise tree replacement and seedling planting activities, ensuring compliance with ISA standards.
  • Audit ongoing and completed vegetation management projects for compliance with standards.
  • Maintain communication with local client personnel and public agencies such as CALTRANS, CALFIRE, USFS, and BLM.
  • Address customer complaints promptly.
  • Be prepared to perform emergency or storm-related tree work within 24 hours if required.
  • Assist in planning and organizing timber harvests, including completing necessary plans and permits.
  • Conduct pre-inspections for CALFIRE and related agencies.
  • Mark timber according to specifications and oversee contractor compliance with logging contracts and regulations.
  • Perform timber inventories and appraisals as directed.
  • Participate in OMS Health & Safety programs and complete required training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Registered California Professional Forester in good standing.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in hazard tree removal along utility rights of way.
  • Knowledge of vegetation management practices, arboricultural techniques, and regulatory requirements.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and a physical exam.
  • Approval by the Client Representative.
Working Conditions:

Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to weather, chemicals, and uneven terrain. Physical demands include walking, standing, lifting up to 25 pounds, and visual acuity. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals.
