Job summary

UP Health System Bell, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist to join our sleep center. You will review protocols, prepare and calibrate equipment, apply sensors, and monitor studies to ensure high-quality data.

This PRN night shift (7pm-7am) offers a meaningful role in caring for patients across ages while supporting ongoing education and professional growth within a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist credential required.
• BLS certification preferred or required per facility policy.
• Associate degree with polysomnography emphasis or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

• Review patient history, procedures and study protocol.
• Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center.
• Prepare and calibrate equipment; ensure proper functioning.
• Apply electrodes and sensors according to published standards.
• Acquire polysomnographic data and monitor signal quality.
• Document observations and events to facilitate scoring.

How You'll Contribute

• Review patient history, physical information, medications, procedure request, and study protocol.
• Complete and verify all patient information documentation.
• Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center.
• Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.
• Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
• Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments, if necessary.
• Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
• Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
• Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values.
• Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary.
• Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
• Implement appropriate interventions.
• Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
• Assist with scoring clinical events with center specific protocols.
• Assist with the generation of accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
• Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.
• Demonstrate self-directed learning and participates in continuing education by attendance at scheduled meetings and in-services.
• Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.

What We're Looking For

• Required:- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.
• Primary Source Verification: Board of Polysomnographic Technologists. Preferred: Licensed by the State of Michigan in Respiratory Care
• Basic Life Support
• Minimum Education Minimum: Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with emphasis in polysomnography.
• OR Successful completion of Polysomnography program associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience.
