Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician provides assistance to the Pharmacist regarding all aspects of routine and emergency drug acquisition, disposition, handling, storage, accountability, and administration. Provides inventory replenishment to selected Article 28 sites. Assists in training and supervision of departmental personnel.

Duties of a Pharmacy Technician include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for stock control in all areas of the pharmacy.
  • Responsible for ordering pharmaceuticals and supplies as needed.
  • Thoroughly checks expiration dates of drugs in all areas of the pharmacy.
  • Shows competency in preparing LVP, PB, and TPN solutions under the supervision of the pharmacist.
  • Completes departmental / unit inspections in a timely manner.
  • Shows competency in controlled substance procedures (C-2 Safe).
  • Assists in training of new personnel.
  • Restock intravenous solutions in IV Room when needed.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the institution's pharmaceutical waste program.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Current valid NY State Registered Pharmacy Technician license and registration
  • Current valid Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health career Association (NHA) Pharmacy Technician certification
  • At least 1 year of previous related experience
  • Ability to prioritize

  • Ability to assign and oversee tasks performed by Volunteers

As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services*

  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
