Registered Pharmacist – PRN

Employment Type: PRN (As Needed) Location: Tyler, Texas

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Registered Pharmacist (PRN) to join a fun and friendly pharmacy team. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of drug dispensing, ensure the accuracy and completeness of technician work prior to medication delivery, and support the supervision of pharmacy staff to ensure full compliance with company policies and procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed pharmacist looking for flexible, as-needed hours in a collaborative and patient-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain full compliance with all state and federal regulatory standards applicable to pharmacy practice.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of pharmacy-related laws and share relevant information with staff and colleagues as needed.
  • Review all new prescriptions to verify appropriate dosing and diagnosis alignment.
  • Review new prescriptions for prescribing physician appropriateness.
  • Notify physicians of any concerns related to prescribing practices or specific prescriptions.
  • Clarify orders with physicians or nurses as needed, and complete verbal orders accordingly.
  • Accurately dispense and prepare medications for delivery.
  • Support pharmacy consultation calls and maintain proper documentation.
  • Provide pharmaceutical counseling to patients, guardians, physicians, nurses, physician office staff, and internal employees as needed.
  • Assist with the daily duties of the pharmacy coordinator as necessary.
  • Verify proper storage of products and confirm all technician-prepared prescriptions within established timeframes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Assist in supervising and reviewing the work of pharmacy coordinators.
  • Oversee work assignments for pharmacy coordinators and technicians to ensure efficiency and quality.
Qualifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to organize and supervise pharmacy support staff and communicate clearly with nurses, physicians, and patients.
  • Solid pharmaceutical and clinical knowledge to appropriately dispense and monitor drug therapy.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks during high-volume periods.
  • Professional demeanor representing the company at all times.
  • Strong patient service orientation.
  • Excellent knowledge of chemistry and drug interactions.
  • Strong understanding of medical and biological terminology.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of this position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of self or others.
  • Must maintain HIPAA compliance in accordance with company policy and understand applicable obligations under the Privacy Rule.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting while working at a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
Education & Experience
  • Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy (B.S. or Pharm.D.).
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a pharmacist required.
  • Current, unrestricted pharmacist registration in the state of practice.
