Job summary

• Establishes professional relationships based on mutual respect and recovery principles that promote wellness.
• Assists the program manager and administrative team in data collection and provides input on outcome measures.
• Completes required training to maintain CPRS certification.
• Works with peers to develop recovery plans and provide mentoring, mental health services, and linkage to re-entry services.
• Empowers peers to be self-advocates for their recovery pathway.
• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Plus: Three years' lived recovery experience, CPRS certification, and Registered Peer Supervisor certification.
• Licenses and Certificates: CPRS and Registered Peer Supervisor at time of application.

Job description

Regular Schedule: 34 hours per week.

A Non-Merit grant funded vacancy exists in the Department of Corrections.

Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.

Current and future vacancies occurring within this class may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.

Registered Peer Supervisors manage Peer Recovery Specialists in the various peer support programs to ensure program participants are getting the best quality service. Peer Support Specialist Supervisors must have Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) and a Registered Peer Supervisor (RPS) in Maryland.

• Builds and maintains a trusting professional relationship with the recovery specialist under the supervision that helps the peer recovery specialist meet job performance goals.
• Models ethical boundaries between peer and supervisor to ensure ethical boundaries between peer support staff and program participants is maintained.
• Maintains appropriate confidentiality of information disclosed during supervision that meets legal and professional requirements in order assure appropriate and successful supervisor-to-supervisee relationships.
• Evaluates and provides feedback of peer recovery specialist's job performance in various settings (e.g.with thepeople they serve, team members and other agencies) using a variety of techniques including observation, reviews of progress notes, and discussions with people served), in order ensure that Peer Recovery Specialists are helping people served meet their goals, interacting in a peer-to-peer fashion, and working within the Peer Recovery Specialist scope of practice.
• Understands and supports core values of peer support building and maintaining effective working relationships with peer recovery specialists who acknowledge their role and experience, while maintaining the expectations of the workplace.
• Establishes professional relationships based on mutual respect and recovery principles and ideals that promote environments in which peer recovery specialists' efforts self-monitor and take care of their own wellness are supported and encouraged, understanding that the recovery and growth process is not linear.
• Assists the program manager and the administrative team in collection of data and will provide ongoing input and feedback on outcome measures.
• Completes all required training to maintain Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CRPS).
• Works with peers to develop a recovery plan to provide peer mentoring services, mental health services, linkage to re-entry services and facilitation of contacts with the recovery community.
• Empowers the peers to be self-advocates for their own recovery pathway.

Examples of Other Duties

• Supervisors may be expected to carry a caseload of MAT participants.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Possession of a high school diploma or appropriate equivalent.

Three years' lived experience of recovery, from which the applicant him/herself has maintained uninterrupted abstinence from a substance use disorder such as alcohol or drug addiction.

Certification as a Registered Peer Supervisor.

Licenses and Certificates

Certification as a PeerRecovery Specialist and Registered Peer Supervisoris required at the time of application.

Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver license is required at the time of application.

Applicants are required to submit proof ofPeer Recovery Specialist and Registered Peer Supervisor Certifications for this position.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Persons cannot have current involvement in the criminal justice system. Must be able to obtain security clearance to enter the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation

Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
