Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services to nearly 60 percent of the residents in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties.

Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist shall perform duties involved with the treatment, management control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with deficiencies and/or abnormalities within the pulmonary system. The therapist shall perform all routine and complex respiratory care procedures for patients of all ages. The therapist communicates with physicians and the respiratory team on patient progress within the care plan and provides recommendations regarding patient progress. Additional duties may be assigned within the scope of the role.

Education / Experience

Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care preferred. If credentialed after 2002, continuous active membership status for credentials issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care is required.

License / Certification

Active ASBRT LRT required; Active NBRC RRT required; BLS required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required depending upon the area assigned.

• Must possess reasoning ability and good independent judgment.

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements

This position requires walking 33%, sitting 33%, and standing 33% of the workday. Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Frequent reaching, use of hands, and repetitive action are required. Must be able to push and pull equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Continuous speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation via phone or in person is required. Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range is required. Exposure to infectious disease may occur during job-related tasks. Must be able to assist and maneuver patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds. Occasional interfacility transport via ground transportation is required.
