Wound Care Registered Nurse (RN)

Location : Medical Clinic, Portsmouth, VA

Schedule : Full Time - Monday through Friday with the availability to work an 8-hour shift between 7 am - 6 pm - No Weekends or Holidays

Position Summary : Job Summary :

The Wound Care Registered Nurse specializes in the assessment, treatment, and management of patients with complex wounds, pressure injuries, surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, and other skin integrity issues. This role requires advanced clinical skills, a strong knowledge of wound healing principles, and a collaborative approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities :

Perform comprehensive wound assessments, including measuring and documenting wound characteristics and healing progress.

Develop individualized care plans and implement evidence-based wound care treatments.

Collaborate with physicians, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to promote optimal wound healing.

Educate patients and caregivers on proper wound care techniques, prevention strategies, and follow-up care.

Apply and manage advanced wound care products, dressings, and therapies (e.g., negative pressure wound therapy).

Monitor for signs of infection or complications and promptly report findings to the healthcare team.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Participate in wound care rounds and quality improvement initiatives.

Serve as a resource and educator for staff regarding wound prevention and treatment protocols.

Qualifications :

• Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred) from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)

Licensure : Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse

Certification in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing (CWOCN) or Wound Care Certification (WCC) preferred.

BLS certification is required from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in wound care, med-surg, or a related specialty.

Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and patient centered care approach.

Excellent communication, teaching, and teamwork skills.
