This position manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This position is involved in the safe insertion of vascular access devices and serves as the resource for infusion related activities in the acute care setting. The primary functions of the role consists of activities related to the safe insertion, delivery, site care, and maintenance of vascular access therapies including fluids, medications, blood/blood components, and parenteral nutrition.

Responsibilities
  • Performs all responsibilities/duties related to the oversight of vascular access activities.
  • Actively involved in the assessment/evaluation of vascular access needs and requests
  • Clinically proficient with safe, effective vascular access and initiation.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Clinically proficient with safe, effective post insertion maintenance.
  • Serves as professional resource for BHC acute care entities.
  • Manages administrative aspects of Vascular Access Team to ensure high level functioning of overall program.
  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Pursues professional growth and development.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
