Registered Nurse (RN) - Urology

Schedule: Monday-Thursday: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM | Friday: 8:00 AM-2:00 PM (Rotating Saturday: 8:00 AM-1:00 PM)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to patients with acute and chronic urologic conditions in an outpatient setting. The RN will work closely with urology providers and the clinical team to support patient care, education, care coordination, medication administration, and office-based urologic procedures.
The ideal RN will have strong clinical assessment skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience working in urology, surgical, or ambulatory care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake, assessments, vital signs, and clinical screenings.
- Obtain and document urinalysis, bladder scans, and other clinical data.
- Administer medications safely and accurately according to provider orders.
- Document patient information, assessments, and care plans accurately in the EMR.
- Triage patient calls and walk-in concerns related to urinary symptoms, catheter issues, hematuria, urinary retention, and post-procedure complications.
- Insert, irrigate, change, and remove urinary catheters, including Foley, straight, and suprapubic catheters, as ordered.
- Assist providers with office-based urologic procedures, including cystoscopy, vasectomy, prostate biopsy, urodynamic studies, catheter changes, and intravesical treatments.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure providers have the necessary equipment and supplies.
- Educate patients and families on urologic conditions, medications, catheter care, and pre- and post-procedure instructions.
- Reinforce provider treatment plans and encourage patient adherence.
- Coordinate referrals, imaging, laboratory testing, and specialty consultations.
Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in urology, surgical, or ambulatory care.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR).
- Strong computer and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience in an outpatient urology setting.
- Experience assisting with urologic procedures.
- Strong patient education and care coordination skills.
- Knowledge of catheter management and common urologic conditions.
