Job summary

USA Health is transforming perioperative care along the Gulf Coast, offering leadership to develop and execute education programs for RNs and scrub techs. The educator will drive the perioperative curriculum, ensure alignment with best practices, and lead ongoing professional development for staff across multiple facilities.

Qualifications

  • Nursing degree from an accredited program with Alabama RN licensure.
  • Minimum 5 years of nursing experience; or a BSN with 2 years.
  • Master's degree in nursing preferred.
  • RN licensure and BCLS/ACLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead perioperative staff development and initial perioperative skills training.
  • Develop and maintain perioperative curriculum aligned with best practices.
  • Participate in governance and policy discussions to support education.
  • Provide leadership within perioperative shared governance program.
  • Onboard RNs and scrub techs; manage ongoing staff development.
  • Create educational materials for new technologies and processes.
  • Support annual performance reviews related to skills and competencies.

Responsibilities
  • The Perioperative Nurse Educator provides leadership and coordination of initial perioperative skills development and ongoing professional development for all staff in perioperative services
  • This role plays a vital role in establishing the clinical effectiveness standards within perioperative services through development of the perioperative curriculum, ongoing skills assessment, and professional development of clinical staff
  • Participates in perioperative services leadership functions and meetings, providing insight into the effectiveness of clinical policy and professional practiceguidelines as well as staff knowledge and skill achievements
  • Provides leadership within perioperative shared governance program
  • Develops curriculum to support perioperative training of RNs and scrub techs
  • Ensures curriculum is aligned with AORN and AST best practice
  • Ensures all learning materials and program are grounded in the principles of adult learning and evidence based practices
  • On-boarding of all clinical staff (RNs & Scrub Techs)
  • Ongoing Staff Development:
    • Ensuring clinical staff are up to date on policies and procedures
    • Develop and provide in-service education and staff development program to promote safe and effective patient-centered care
    • Develop educational materials and programs to facilitate adoption of new technologies, processes, and products
    • Assist service line coordinators and supervisors with understanding the capabilities and competencies of each clinical staff member and assign with appropriate and effective staff assignments
    • Participate in annual performance reviews as they pertain to skill development and competencies
    • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare
    • teams in person and via telephone
    • Responds to overhead pages
    • Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict
    • Cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit
    • Completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements
    • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
    • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned
Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and 5 years of experience. Required OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and 2 years of experience. Required
  • Master's Degree in nursing. Preferred
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in accordance with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
