Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Louisiana is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse Supervisor A (PRN-WAE) to aid nursing staff in delivering high-quality care to our honored veterans. This government position offers meaningful daily impact and retention pay per hour worked with shift differential.
The role involves planning care delivery, supervising staff, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring safety and compliance with RAI/MDS processes.
Competenze
- Valid Louisiana RN license or multi-state license to practice.
- Three years of RN experience; OR bachelor's degree in nursing with two years experience; OR master's in nursing or public health with two years experience; OR doctorate in nursing or public health with one year experience.
- This PRN-WAE position may include retention pay and shift differential.
Mansioni
- Plans and directs the care delivery of all residents on a unit.
- Receives shift report and assesses need for reassigning personnel to provide optimal care.
- Collaborates with the RN Supervisor on evening/night shift and other departments to support 24-hour resident care.
- Reviews work orders to ensure a safe environment and initiates transfers as needed.
- Completes the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process and inputs MDS information.

- Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi‑state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:
- Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
- A bachelor's degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
- A master's degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
- A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.
Job Duties
- Plans and directs the care delivery of all residents on a unit
- Received shift report and assessed need for reassigning personnel, as indicated, for best coverage and to provide optimal care. Makes rounds to assess residents, employees, and the physical plant of the assigned unit.
- Collaborates with the RN Supervisor on the evening and night shift and in other departments to provide support services that facilitate resident care on a 24-hour basis.
- Reviews work orders to ensure that a safe environment is maintained. Initiates arrangements to have residents transferred to another facility due to serious illness.
- Completes the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process and inputs Minimum Data Set (MDS) information into the computer database.
- Supervises, reviews, and evaluates the performance of subordinate staff in the delivery of resident care.
- Makes recommendations as needed to improve performance. Makes recommendations for selection, disciplinary action, and discharge of subordinates.
- Conducts Quality Assurance audits as assigned by Nursing Administration.
- Prepares schedule jointly with the Assistant Director of Nurses to provide adequate nurse coverage for the respective shift. Counsels with and/or advises staff regarding attendance. Consults with the Director of Nurses and the Assistant Director of Nurses on leave requests for subordinate personnel.

- Compensation: This position is eligible for retention pay (per hour worked) and shift differential.
