Job summary

Commonwealth Pain & Spine in Elizabethtown, KY is seeking a compassionate RN to support patients through interventional pain procedures, including reviewing history, vitals, obtaining consents, preparing procedure rooms, and documenting in the EMR.

Qualifications

• RN degree (associate or bachelor's) from an accredited program.
• Active RN license in Kentucky.
• Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Pushing sedation in the procedure suite.
• Reviewing patient medical history, vitals, and medications.
• Educating patients on procedures and pre-operation instructions.
• Obtaining informed consents.
• Completing all necessary charting in the EMR system.
• Assist in preparing the procedure rooms for procedures.
• Preparing the patient for procedures (IVs, draping, positioning).
• Participate in conscious sedation as needed (training provided).
• Answering patients’ medical questions in person and on the phone.
• Assist in moving between procedures and recovery.
• Escorting patients to the recovery room and monitoring recovery.
• Reviewing discharge instructions and medications with the patient.
• Discharging patients and documenting in the EMR.
• Assist in ordering drugs and supplies used during procedures.
• Follow up with patients by phone one day after procedure.
• Provide health education to patients and families.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal law.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

• Pushing sedation in the procedure suite
• Reviewing patient's medical information such as patient's name, allergies, procedure, prescriptions, medical history and medications.
• Educating patients on the procedure(s) that will be performed, pre-operation instructions and what they can expect.
• Obtaining informed consents for medical treatment.
• Completing all necessary charting in the EMR system.
• Assist in preparing the procedure rooms for procedures.
• Preparing the patient for procedures. (i.e. starting IV's, instructing patients to change, escorting patients to procedure room, draping, positioning patient and marking patient.
• Participate in providing conscious sedation as needed to select patients (with training provided by the company)
• Answering patients’ medical questions in person and on the telephone.
• Assist in flipping the procedure room from one procedure to the next.
• Escorting the patient to the recovery room.
• Monitoring the patient during recovery and completing the recovery section of the EMR.
• Reviewing discharge instructions and medications with the patient.
• Discharging patients and completing the discharge section of the EMR.
• Assist in ordering drugs and medical supplies used during procedures.
• Telephoning patients one day after their procedure to check on their status and documenting the telephone follow-up.
• Provide health education, including self-care and wellness issues, to patients and their families.
• Compliance with state and federal law.
• All other duties assigned including duties performed for affiliates, assigns, lessees, contractors or other third parties

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Must have excellent communication skills, written and oral.
• Experience and comfort with sedation
• Proficient computer skills are a plus. Individuals must be compassionate and enjoy helping others.
• Empathy and patience is a highly valued quality that one must possess.
• They must have the ability to give and follow directions effectively.
• Nurses need emotional stability, excellent judgment to know when to consult with a physician or proceed on their own in any situation.

Education and Experience

• Associate or bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
• Active RN license within the state where clinic is located.
• Current CPR certification.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this position will include sitting and standing with occasional light to medium lifting. Ability to help lift patients and transport in wheelchair from clinic to parking lot. An employee must meet these requirements to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodation will be made in accordance with ADA rules and regulations.
