Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's State Correctional Institution Fayette seeks a Registered Nurse to provide nursing care and health assessments to inmates, using sound clinical judgment, accurate documentation, and responsive emergency care.

This full-time role is on the 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM), 40 hours per week, with retirement benefits; PA residency is waived and PA RN licensure is required. Training at Elizabethtown is required prior to appointment.

Qualifications

• Active PA Registered Nurse license or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Carry out nursing care plans including vital signs, meds, treatments, daily living support.
• Evaluate patient needs, assist exams, deliver immunizations, screen health issues.
• Perform urgent assessments and CPR/AED before referring to advanced care.
• Document patient information in electronic health records and prepare reports.
• Sterilize instruments, track supplies, and maintain stock in treatment areas.
• Attend required trainings and stay updated on policy/procedure changes.

This position focuses on providing nursing care and treatment to inmates with medical, behavioral, or developmental needs. It requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly in a variety of situations. As a Registered Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Nursing Care:Carry out nursing care plans by checking vital signs, administering medications, completing treatments, and supporting daily living activities
• Health Assessment:Evaluate patient needs, assist with examinations, deliver immunizations and screenings, and provide health counseling
• Emergency Response:Perform assessments and deliver first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or automated external defibrillator (AED) care before referring patients for advanced medical support
• Documentation Tasks:Record information in the electronic health record, prepare reports, and maintain accurate medication and substance records
• Supply Management:Sterilize instruments, track supplies, and maintain adequate stock levels in treatment areas
• Professional Development:Attend required training sessions and stay informed about policy and procedure updates

Work Hours and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week.
• The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. These shifts include 1st shift (6:00 AM to 2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM), and 3rd shift (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM).
  • This position is for 2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm
  • Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $89,8820.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
