The unit operates with a 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio and emphasizes safety, quality, and rehabilitation through PT, respiratory care, and cognitive stimulation. Required BSN (or MSN preferred) and RN license; BLS within 90 days.

Qualifications

• BSN required; MSN preferred.
• RN license (required).
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency in nursing practice in the CCU Stepdown (PVSU).
• Provides clinical leadership for delivery of nursing care in the department.
• Leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on workflow, and contributes to staff development.
• Maintains patient care quality and supports a 3:1 nurse:patient ratio on the unit.

Most patients admitted to PVSU come from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). PVSU focuses on maximizing the rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness. This goal is accomplished through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care and mental stimulation.
