Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Critical Care Stepdown Unit - PVSU (Progressive Ventilator Stepdown Unit) in Norfolk, VA. New Grad RNs welcome. Unit emphasizes ventilator care, rehab-focused protocols, and 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio based on acuity.

Full-time, 36 hours/week, with day (7a–7p) or night (7p–7a) shifts. Includes a sign-on bonus up to $20,000 for qualified applicants and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing is required.
• Active RN license is required in Virginia.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent nursing care on the PVSU with ventilator patients.
• Collaborate with ICU team to maximize rehab while continuing to treat the illness.
• Educate patients and families on care plans and discharge instructions.

The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.Department Overview:The PVSU at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is an 16 bed step-down unit, specializing in treatment of patients on mechanical ventilators. Most patients admitted to PVSU come from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). PVSU focuses on maximizing the rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness. This goal is accomplished through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care and mental stimulation.
