MedStar Health is seeking Clinical Nurses (I, II, III) to provide high-quality patient care and support with a focus on wellness and prevention. You'll engage in direct patient care, medication management, and team leadership, ensuring compliance with nursing regulations in a dynamic environment.
The Clinical Nurse I job integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family. This role assists the healthcare team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. It provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level. The job involves delivering and accurately documenting direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary care plan. It also includes safely administering prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions.
The Clinical Nurse II job demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and begins to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population. It assists the healthcare team with prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision, recognizing changes in patient situations and intervening appropriately. The role involves mobilizing resources to meet the individualized needs of patients and families, providing direction, education, and assuming leadership responsibilities at the unit level. It involves delivering and documenting age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, as well as safely administering medications and managing interactions.
The Clinical Nurse III job demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and begins to apply this to a specific patient population. It assists with prevention, injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort. The role involves anticipating changes in patient conditions and intervening appropriately, providing direction, serving as a role model, and delivering and documenting age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans. It also includes safe medication administration and interaction management.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible in a compact state.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
Experience REQUIRED:
Clin I: N/A
Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience.
Experience PREFERRED:
Clin I: Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or relevant area.
Clin II, Clin III: Academic healthcare experience; experience with similar patient populations in an acute care setting or relevant area.
Education/training REQUIRED:
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Diploma or Associate's Degree from an approved nursing program. All nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing must enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years unless grandfathered.
Education/training PREFERRED:
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher; Clin III: Certification in a specialty area.
Independent actions include following physician or licensed provider orders, practicing within Virginia nursing regulations, adhering to the ANA Code of Ethics and national standards, and following institutional policies and procedures.
Supervisory responsibilities:
Organizing work, delegating, and supervising others (RN, LPN, Care Partners, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
Additional requirements:
Clinicians work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Schedules are established with the Nurse or Practice Manager and may be adjusted as needed.
Age-specific groups served depend on unit assignment.
Physical Requirements include lifting 20-50 lbs, exposure to hazardous substances, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching, and mental and sensory skills such as reasoning, hearing, speaking, reading, and problem-solving. The environment is fast-paced, noisy, with frequent customer interactions.
