Job summary

Mass General Brigham's ophthalmic surgery team at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is seeking a Per Diem Operating Room RN. The role combines scrub and circulating responsibilities for a high-volume ophthalmology OR, including cataract, retina, glaucoma, corneal and oculoplastic cases.

You will prepare the OR, ensure sterile technique, document care, and collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and staff to maintain patient safety.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with Massachusetts license in good standing.
• BLS and ACLS certification required (or within 6 months of hire).
• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience, including scrub and circulate roles, ophthalmology preferred.
• Strong sterile technique, AORN guidelines, and surgical safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Function as scrub and circulating nurse for ophthalmic surgeries (cataract, retina, glaucoma, corneal, oculoplastic).
• Prepare OR with instruments and supplies and maintain sterile technique.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia and staff to ensure smooth workflow.
• Document intraoperative care and nursing interventions accurately.
• Lead in emergencies and debrief after critical incidents.

• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical techs, and fellow nurses to ensure smooth surgical workflow.
• Document all intraoperative care and nursing interventions accurately.
• Participate in room turnover and preparation between cases.
• Adhere to all hospital policies, regulatory standards, and safety guidelines.
