Job Summary: The Level II Competent Registered Nurse is clinically able to care for patients. The Level II MWHC nurse demonstrates the ability to collaborate with the healthcare team to improve the quality of care in the designated clinical area by incorporating research and implementing evidenced-based knowledge into practice. The Level II Competent Registered Nurse assumes the accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care for an assigned group of patients. The RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  1. Direct and coordinate nursing care, including oversight of licensed and unlicensed personnel in any assigned or delegated tasks using the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  2. Coordinate involvement of the patient, family and health team members in patient care, including patient/family teaching and discharge planning.
  3. Communicate and coordinate the plan of care and other pertinent information to/from other health care team members.
  4. Assist Leadership to define standards of excellence for patient care; participate in improvement of patient care services.
  5. Participate in, contribute to and integrate performance improvement into care delivery and participate in quality improvement activities.
  6. Participate in orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members.
  7. Act as point of contact on hospital and departmental policies and procedures to nurses and other health team members.
  8. Participate in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment.
  9. Provide input to the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs.
  10. Participate in unit, departmental and hospital committees for formulation of nursing and hospital policies and procedures.
  11. Provides for the physical, mental and social well-being for individuals and families by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation for nursing care.
  12. Performs the comprehensive assessment and develops/implements and evaluates the plan of care as identified on admission and subsequent home visits.
  13. Provides appropriate and thorough education to patients and their caregivers as it relates to the plan of care.
  14. When assigned, serves as case manager to coordinate multidisciplinary services per the plan of care.
  15. Maintains acceptable productivity standard as determined by agency leadership.
  16. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings in order to share information and assist with patient management.
  17. Participates in staff and administrative meetings.
  18. Participates in quality and performance improvement activities.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.
  20. Performs essential functions and responsibilities of the role at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital locations, as scheduled.

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program and has experience as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Valid RN License from Virginia or reciprocal compact state required.
  3. BSN is preferred.
  4. AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
  5. NIHSS (Bluecloud) required at hire.
  6. Additional certifications will be required according to the assigned unit.
  7. 2 years of recent RN acute care experience required.
