Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking a Float RN to provide high-quality, patient-centered care across 65+ inpatient units. This full-time role features 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM) with a $15 hourly float differential and applicable shift differentials.

The position emphasizes adaptability, clinical leadership, and ongoing learning, with opportunities to work in various specialties and care settings across the hospital.

Qualifications

• Current RN license.
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
• Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a variety of clinical settings.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care across inpatient units following nursing standards.
• Educates patients and families on illness management, home care needs and medications.
• Promotes patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance; participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements and documents plans of care with the interprofessional team.
• Communicates the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Assesses patient preferences, values, and cultural or spiritual needs.

Role Highlights

• Float across 65+ inpatient units at Barnes-Jewish Hospital
• Full-time, 12-hour day shift (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
• $15/hour Float Differential plus applicable shift differentials
• Every third weekend and three holidays per year

To provide the hospital with an additional source of Registered Nurses for use by all patient care areas within Barnes-Jewish Hospital. To provide staffing support that accommodates changes in patient census and acuity. To augment staffing needs during unscheduled ETO when other staffing options are not available. To assist in the cost effective utilization of nursing personnel to promote the delivery of quality patient care.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of recent ICU/Critical Care experience
• BSN or currently enrolled in a BSN program. Previous float pool experience.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
