Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, is seeking a PRN Clinical Nurse Float to provide high-quality patient care across 65+ inpatient units (excluding ER & ICU). You will support the Nursing Office by floating and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualified candidates have at least 2 years of Med-Surg nursing experience, RN licensure, and strong clinical judgment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
• RN licensure required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Safety-sensitive position with required professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care across inpatient units via float coverage.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the team.
• Educate patients and families on treatment, home care and medications.
• Maintain safety, quality and regulatory compliance in care delivery.
• Communicate plans of care across the continuum and with interdisciplinary teams.

Join Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, as a PRN Clinical Nurse Float and expand your clinical expertise across a wide range of inpatient units. In this dynamic role, you will support the Nursing Office by floating throughout the hospital (excluding the ER and ICU), collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while gaining exposure to diverse patient populations and specialties.

Role Highlights

• PRN, self-scheduled position (minimum 8 hours per pay period)
• Flexible shift options: days or nights
• Coverage across 65+ inpatient nursing units (excluding ER & ICU)
• 1 weekend shift every 6 weeks and 1 holiday per year
• Tier 2 Float Differential: $15/hour

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
