General Summary

  • This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses at UMMC with over 12 months of experience. The nurse will be competent in required skills and knowledge and fully participate in unit governance. The nurse will practice and adhere to the guidelines specified in the UMMC Professional Nurse Job Charter. They will independently provide and coordinate care within a clinical specialty, serve as an effective team member, and demonstrate the full range of nursing practice. The nurse is accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes, to peers for group practice advancement, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.

Qualifications

  • Maryland RN licensure or eligibility via Compact agreements.
  • Maintain 10 contact hours of education annually.
  • Membership in a professional organization.
  • Recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

  • Ability to lead others, such as charge nurse, preceptor, or resource, and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in computer systems for managing patient information.
  • Knowledge of growth, development, and patient-specific needs across the lifespan.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Patient Safety

  • Ensure patient safety in job performance and participate in safety initiatives.
  • Take corrective actions for observed safety risks.
  • Report adverse events and near misses.
  • Identify and communicate potential risks.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $38.51-$51.81
  • Shift Differential: $3.25 - $6.75
