Registered Nurse (RN) – PACU/Recovery Room/Operating Room (OR) – Memorial Regional Medical Center

Job Summary:

The PACU/Recovery Room/Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by:

  • Utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status
  • Determining the priority of the patient’s problems and needs
  • Implementing clinical nursing interventions to acute, critical patients that require intensive medical care
  • Developing and performing patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes
  • Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team
  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessment
  • Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient
  • Responsible for managing the nursing care of the patient within the OR and coordinating the needs of the surgical team with other care providers
  • Provides pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing

Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and/or PALS may be required within 6 months based on specific surgical department requirements)
  • CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse (preferred, not required)
  • SGNA Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (preferred, not required)

Experience:

  • Two years of RN experience in Critical Care Department (preferred, not required)
  • Completion of OR internship program (preferred, not required)

Training:

  • Successful completion of Peri-op 101 (preferred, not required)

Additional Information:

Nursing duties include

* Care of the immediate post-op patient ranging from same day discharge to the critically ill patient.

*Management of ventilators and bipap patients if clinically indicated *Ratios being 2 patients to 1 nurse unless patient is critically ill and needs additional support. Ratio then 1 to 1.

*Schedule is Day/ Evenings with potential for evening coverage until 11pm if needed during hard to staff days.

* Week day call is 32-36 hours per 6 weeks schedule. Options to take call can be either 4 hour or 8 hour blocks from either 11p-3a, 3a-7a or 11p-7a. Weekend requirements are rotated every 6th weekend, weekend call is two twelve hour blocks from 7p-7a for both the Saturday and Sunday nights. The weekend requirement is in ADDITION to the week day call requirement.

* Potential to float to discharge area

* 10- bay PACU

* surgical population includes, orthopedics, general surgery, vascular surgery, women’s surgery, urology, ep lab, podiatry, back and spine.

* ACLS, PALS, required. Can get PALS certified after hire if needed.
