Job Summary/Overall Objectives

The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care for a designated group of patients. The RN coordinates, directs, and actively participates as an effective member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to the efficient operation of the unit and promoting positive patient outcomes. This position floats between the short stay unit and recovery room and requires participation in a call rotation to care for post-operative patients 24/7.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and professional societies.
  • Ensure quality care by adhering to standards, measuring outcomes, and following policies and regulations.
  • Protect patients and staff by following infection control, medication, and safety protocols.
  • Document patient care accurately in records.
  • Communicate effectively within nursing teams to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Build rapport with patients and establish care requirements.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and families.
  • Promote patient independence through education and goal setting.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Resolve patient issues using team strategies.
  • Participate in team quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Manage nursing supplies inventory.
Short Stay Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care, including pre and post-procedure assessments and education.
  • Manage patient discharges and provide instructions.
  • Assist healthcare professionals during procedures, ensuring safety and compliance.
Recovery Room Responsibilities
  • Develop patient education processes for postoperative care.
  • Coordinate care to promote health and self-care.
  • Participate in a call schedule for 24/7 postoperative care.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • One-year critical care or PACU experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • BLS certification.
  • PALS and ACLS certifications or completion within 1 year of hire.
Additional Information

This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may involve mentoring. Work hours are scheduled based on operational needs, including rotations, standby, and on-call duties. Travel between locations may be required. The work environment follows CDC guidelines for PPE, and physical demands include lifting requirements and exposure to various physical conditions. The position is part-time at an entry level, within the healthcare industry, specifically hospitals and healthcare facilities.
