Job summary

Health First in Florida is seeking a part-time registered nurse to deliver quality patient care in accordance with nursing standards. Responsibilities include medication administration, supervising patient-care activities, and documenting on patient records. You will collaborate with the care team to coordinate plans and educate patients and families.

The ideal candidate holds Florida RN licensure, is BLS-certified, and meets unit-specific care requirements. BSN is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing.
  • Current Florida RN licensure or endorsement.
  • Current AHA BLS healthcare provider completion card required prior to start date and maintenance; additional certifications as required by unit.
  • Experience: Must meet unit-specific care requirements.
  • Language: Must be able to speak, understand, and read written instructions in English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective medication administration to patients.
  • Proper delegation and supervision of patient-care activities.
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Document all nursing care and patient responses in the chart.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary plan of care based on evidence-based practice.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers as directed by the care plan.
  • Contribute to patient experience with quality service and sensitivity to diverse needs.

Position Summary

To fully engage in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by demonstrating leadership through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care according to the standards of professional nursing practice. Nursing care is provided to the individual patient, based upon cultural, spiritual, and age‑specific needs.

Primary Accountabilities
Quality/No Harm
  • Demonstrates effective medication administration to patients, evidenced by preceptor observation tool, skills fair demonstration, and clinical practice.
  • Proper delegation and supervision of patient‑care activities within the healthcare setting.
  • Effective communication with other members of the healthcare team and promotion of team functioning.
  • Use of Health First computer systems for order entry, order inquiry, and patient‑care documentation.
  • Safe clinical practice, evidenced by skills fair demonstration, completion of yearly competency assessment, and age‑specific checklist.
  • Coordinated interdisciplinary plan of care based on current evidence‑based practice.
  • Documentation of all nursing care, changes in condition, response to therapy, treatments, procedures, and referrals on the patient record to meet standards.
  • Dependability, reliability, and flexibility.
Stewardship
  • Use and care for equipment and supplies economically.
Customer Experience
  • Provide patient, family, and/or caregiver education as directed by the plan of care.
  • Provide service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, cultural, and individual differences.
  • Contribute to the patient experience, evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHA scores for department/medical center, and written compliments by patients and others, including consistent purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.
Qualifications Required
  • Education: Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing; associate degree in nursing or nursing diploma required; BSN highly preferred.
  • Licensure: Current Florida RN licensure or endorsement.
  • Certification: Current AHA BLS healthcare provider completion card required prior to start date and maintenance; additional certifications as required by specific unit.
  • Experience: Must meet unit‑specific care requirements.
  • Language: Must be able to speak, understand, and read written instructions in English.
Physical Demands
  • Visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
  • Capacity to lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate patients or equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • Capacity to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted for up to 33% of the assigned shift.
  • Capacity to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift.
  • Potential exposure to bio‑hazardous waste and unknown diseases.
