Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU Float Pool (Travel / Contract - 13 Weeks)

- Dynamic Float Pool Role : Gain diverse experience floating between approximately 5 Med / Surg Intermediate / Progressive Care Units (PCU), including Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, and Neuro Stepdown. Potential for floating to other Metro campuses.

- Schedule : Full-Time Nights, 3 x 12-Hour Shifts (6 : 45 PM - 7 : 15 AM).
- Experienced RNs Valued : Requires 1-2 years of relevant acute care experience.
- This is a FLOAT POOL POSITION. You will NOT be assigned a home unit.
- Guaranteed Hours : No guaranteed hours (shifts are based on facility needs, aiming for 36 hours / week).
- Local Candidates : Not accepted (home address must be at least 50 miles from the facility).
- Licensure : Active Kansas RN License required (Pending licenses NOT accepted).
- RTO (Requested Time Off) : Must be submitted with profile. RTO is reviewed based on unit needs and is subject to specific pre-disclosed blackout periods (discuss during screening).
- Block Scheduling : Not accommodated.
Position Summary :
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is actively seeking an adaptable and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for a PCU Float Pool travel / contract assignment with our esteemed partner medical facility system in Overland Park, KS . This 13-week night shift position (3x12s) requires an RN with 1-2 years of experience in acute care settings such as Med / Surg Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, or Neuro Stepdown. As a member of the float pool, you will provide crucial nursing support across approximately five different intermediate care units and may float to other metro campuses as needed. This role demands proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and care for a diverse adult patient population with conditions like sepsis, renal failure, AFIB, GIB, and stroke.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to adult patients in various Med / Surg Intermediate / Progressive Care Unit settings, maintaining a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 5.
- Expertly monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms via telemetry (on-unit monitoring) and effectively manage dysrhythmias according to established protocols.
- Care for patients with a wide range of diagnoses including (but not limited to) : Sepsis, wound care needs, ETOH withdrawal, Suicidal Ideation (SI), Renal Failure, Atrial Fibrillation (AFIB), GI Bleeds, Stroke, and COVID-19.
- Administer medications safely (familiarity with Omnicell preferred), perform 12-lead EKGs, and utilize specialized equipment such as AirVo high-flow oxygen therapy systems.
- Utilize communication systems effectively (e.g., Voalte).
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, other nurses (including Virtual Nurses), therapists, and ancillary staff, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Perform thorough patient assessments, develop and implement nursing care plans, and evaluate patient responses to interventions.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately and timely within the electronic medical record system.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and infection control practices.
- May be assigned Charge RN duties as needed per unit requirements.
- Participate in the required weekend rotation (8 weekend shifts per facility's 6-week schedule period - combination of Fri / Sat / Sun).
Required Qualifications :
- Minimum of one to two (1-2) years of recent experience working as a Registered Nurse in relevant acute care settings such as Medical / Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, or Progressive Care Units.
- Current and active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas ( Pending licenses are NOT accepted ).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Demonstrated proficiency in cardiac monitoring, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and management of dysrhythmias.
- Must currently reside 50 miles or further from the facility's location in Overland Park, KS.
- Must meet the facility's Influenza vaccination requirement (Medical / Religious exemptions reviewed per policy).
- Willingness and ability to float extensively to various assigned units and potentially other metro campuses.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
- Experience with sheath removal (cardiovascular).
- Experience with feeding tube care and management.
- Proficiency in accessing ports, administering blood products, and central line care / management.
- Experience with ventilator management or conscious sedation.
- Proficiency with Epic EMR system.
