Registered Nurse (RN) PACU - Evenings w/Rotating Call (FT)

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the immediate post-operative assessment and nursing care of patients and/or the care of Ambulatory Care Unit surgical patients transferred to the PACU while applying age-specific needs in the assessment, treatment, and/or care of patients. Possesses substantial knowledge, judgment, and skill based upon the principles of the biological, psychological, behavioral, and social sciences. Must take call on a rotating basis.

Job Specific:

1. Participates in the safety management and infection control programs (EF).
2. Responsible for the immediate post-operative nursing care of the patient (EF).
3. Administers medications, starts infusions, and assists anesthesia personnel as needed (EF).
4. Maintains adequate supplies and equipment and assists with the storage of equipment and supplies (EF).
5. Assists with the orientation/instruction of new PACU and surgery employees and/or students (EF).
6. Supervises other PACU personnel in the absence of the PACU Charge Nurse (EF).
7. Takes call as assigned (EF).

Hospital Responsibilities:

1. Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
2. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
3. Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
4. Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Required: Currently registered with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
Basic Life Support Certification - BLS.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support obtained within the first year of employment - ACLS.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support obtained within the first year of employment - PALS.
