Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse II demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. Assists the healthcare team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Recognizes changes in patient conditions and intervenes appropriately. Mobilizes resources to meet the individualized needs of patients and families. Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level. Delivers and documents age-specific, direct care based on medical orders and an interdisciplinary plan of care. Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions.

The Clinical Nurse III demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge at the unit level, assisting the healthcare team with similar responsibilities, anticipating changes in patient conditions, and serving as a role model. Delivers and documents age-specific care based on medical orders and an interdisciplinary plan of care. Administers medications safely, recognizing interactions and incompatibilities.

Qualifications

• Licensure: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state
• Certification: AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment
• Experience: Clin I: N/A; Clin II: 12-24 months RN experience; Clin III: 3 years clinical experience
• Education: Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing; Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Clin III: Certification in specialty area

• Follows physician/licensed provider orders
• Practices within Virginia nursing regulations
• Guided by ANA Code of Ethics and national standards
• Supervises and delegates tasks to team members
• Works all shifts, including weekends and holidays; schedule may rotate
• Physical ability to lift 20-50 lbs, stand, sit, bend, and perform other activities
• Exposure to hazardous/infectious substances; ability to handle a fast-paced environment
