Job summary

Black Women's Mental Health Institute seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to deliver patient-centered nursing care using the nursing process, in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Qualifications

  • RN licensed in the state; graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications maintained.
  • Preferred experience in critical care.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; basic computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments; coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Assess and manage pain; educate patients and families on pain control.
  • Develop, revise, and implement individualized care plans with other disciplines.
  • Administer medications following five rights and age/condition considerations.
  • Ensure safety and promptly document patient responses and status changes.
  • Utilize critical thinking to prioritize, delegate, and adapt under stress.
  • Create and evaluate patient/family teaching plans for understanding and effectiveness.
  • Assist with peri-anesthesia procedures and manage airway and cardio-respiratory status.
  • Provide accurate reports for safe patient transfers and monitor clinical changes.

Job description

Role Overview: Provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care utilizing the nursing process, both directly and indirectly. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care, communicate clinical conditions, and respond swiftly to changes. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles to deliver age-appropriate care, promoting positive outcomes and patient safety. Supports professional nursing practice through collegial interactions and serves as a role model and mentor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts comprehensive, population-specific assessments and reassessments, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
  • Assesses and manages pain, educating patients and families on pain control techniques; documents interventions and outcomes.
  • Develops, revises, and implements individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines.
  • Administers medications accurately, adhering to the five rights, and demonstrates medication knowledge appropriate to patient age and condition.
  • Performs all care activities in environments that promote safety and positive outcomes, documenting responses promptly and accurately.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and sound judgment to prioritize, delegate, and adapt under stressful situations.
  • Creates and evaluates teaching plans for patients and families, ensuring understanding and effectiveness.
  • Assists with peri-anesthesia procedures, including cardio-version, line insertions, and epidural placements, and manages airway and cardio-respiratory status.
  • Provides accurate reports for safe patient transfers, monitors for changes in clinical status, and understands anesthetic drugs and their effects.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a current Registered Nurse license in the state.
  • Certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, maintained throughout employment.
  • Preferred experience in critical care.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and basic computer proficiency.
