Job summary

MedStar Health’s 5C unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center seeks a Clinical Nurse to provide postoperative care for joint replacements, spine surgeries, and fixation after trauma. The unit also cares for gender-affirmation surgery patients and has earned the PRISM award for excellence in med-surg.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to assess conditions, develop care plans, and implement interventions.

Qualifications

• ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
• Prior clinical nursing experience preferred.
• Active DC RN license and BLS required (AHA or American Red Cross).

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs—from routine to highly complex.
• Assess evolving patient conditions and develop appropriate care plans.
• Interventions may be delivered directly or coordinated with other members of the nursing team.

About the Job

Nurses on 5C provide post operative care to patients who receive elective joint replacements, spine surgeries, and those needing fixation after traumatic fractures. This unit also provides the opportunity to care for patients undergoing Gender Affimation Surgery!

5C is one of three units at MedStar Washington Hospital Center to receive the PRISM award from the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses. PRISM stands for Premier Recognition in the Specialty of Med-Surg and recognizes exemplary practice on med-surg units across the nation.
