UC Health is hiring a part-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the ortho trauma department for the first Shift, 7AM-730PM at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
This 28-bed unit works with the patient population admitted from the ER, PACU, and SICU. Nursing care is concentrated around recovering from traumatic injury with focus on mobility, patient education, monitoring intake and outputs and pain management. This unit will also be working with ortho patients recovering from total knee, hip, and shoulder replacements as well as spinal surgery cases. UCMC is the area’s only Adult Level 1 Trauma Center in the region. Our patients arrive from injuries sustained by motor vehicle crashes, gunshot wounds and unforeseen accidents. We provide treatment of patients with severe and multiple fractures throughout the body, non-healing fractures, bone infections and other complex conditions.

Qualifications
- Required: Associate Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (ASN)
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (BSN).
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Current BLS/ACLS/PALS per department requirements based on patient population needs. See department standards for additional certification and licensure requirements. For employees working in UCMC Psychiatric Services, NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire. | No experience required.

Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.
- Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
- Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care, and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
- Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
- Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
- Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
