Job Summary

This role acts as a supervisor and provider of care at the point of care to individuals and groups of patients within a unit. It involves evaluating nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating, and supervising care provided by the healthcare team, including licensed nurses, registered nurses, and patient care technicians. The supervisor serves as a resource for staff on patient care assessment, planning, and evaluation of interventions, and facilitates problem resolution through collaboration with unit leadership and other supervisory staff. Additionally, the supervisor identifies staff strengths and weaknesses, and evaluates staff performance within their span of control.

Education
  • Required: Registered nurse diploma.
  • Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Experience
  • Required: 1 year of relevant experience as a registered nurse OR 2 years of experience as an LPN in an acute care setting.
  • Preferred: 2 years of relevant experience as a registered nurse.
Certifications
  • Required: Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to assess medical needs and find solutions to ensure patient health and wellbeing.
  • Self-direction.
  • Proficiency in operational indicators such as unit productivity, expense management, regulatory requirements, and quality metrics.
  • Proficiency in computer, software, and web applications.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under stress and maintain objectivity and professionalism.
Job Duties
  • Administers medications, starts IVs, and discharges patients with the healthcare team.
  • Organizes, plans, supervises, and provides coordinated patient care within the unit.
  • Supervises, develops, and evaluates assigned staff nurses and technicians.
  • Promotes adherence to nursing protocols and clinical guidelines.
  • Manages conflicts during shifts and collaborates with other supervisors and leadership.
  • Collaborates with quality, safety, and patient experience leadership to promote related processes.
  • Supports daily clinical operations, ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, and resources.
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and communication needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
