Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room. The position is full-time with day/evening shifts and requires RN licensure in Illinois and OR experience, with BSN preferred.

The RN will perform scrub/circulating duties, coordinate with surgeons and staff, and participate in continuous education and policy development to ensure safe peri-operative care for pediatric patients.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; RN licensure in IL.
  • Minimum three years operating room experience preferred, including one year in a surgical specialty area at Lurie Children’s (preferred).
  • Ability to hold children and react quickly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift/move patients and equipment sometimes in excess of 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Performs scrub nurse, circulating nurse, or RN First Assistant duties to provide intra-operative nursing care.
  • Facilitates specialty service and inter-departmental communications with surgeons, vendors and contracted services.
  • Participates in orientation, evaluation and continuing education of OR staff.
  • Facilitates team concept by selecting staff with appropriate skill levels and ensuring optimum utilization; conducts team conferences.
  • Communicates with primary nurses and APNs to provide continuity of peri-operative patient care.
  • Assists in revising policies for OR, Recovery, and Outpatient Surgery; ensures compliance with standards.
  • Develops expenditure proposals for annual budgets; ensures inventory of specialty supplies.
  • Participates in hospital committees and OR activities including on-call coverage.
  • Adheres to service principles: innovation, service excellence, and teamwork to provide high-quality care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of chemical disinfection, high-level disinfection, and sterilization protocols.

Develops expenditure proposals to incorporate into the annual capital and operations budgets. Ensures an adequate inventory of specialty supplies and equipment.8. Participates in hospital committees as requested. Participates in Operating Room activities to include on-call coverage.9.
