Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA, is seeking part-time and PRN Night Shift Registered Nurses for the Oncology 6 RP Unit. The unit provides inpatient oncology care with focus on chemotherapy, hospice, radiation, and stem cell therapies.

RB license required with BLS within 90 days; BSN preferred. 11-week Transition to Practice supports new grads. Eligible for a $10,000 sign-on for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

  • ONS/ONCC or Sentara chemo provider card within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, specialized oncology nursing care.
  • Monitor patient conditions and administer medications.
  • Deliver chemotherapy and other treatments as prescribed.
  • Support patients through complex care needs in an IMC setting.

Nurses on this unit provide compassionate, specialized care while monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, delivering chemotherapy and other treatments, and supporting patients through complex care needs. Care provided on this unit includes chemotherapy, hospice, radiation, stem cell transplant/CAR-T, radioactive iodine, and symptom management.Work within one of the country’s largest cancer networks, accredited as an Integrated Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including board-certified and fellowship-trained cancer experts, to support individualized patient care.Provide care in an environment that prioritizes advanced, evidence-based technology and treatments, including innovative radiation therapies, robotic surgery, and HIPEC.Education RequirementsDegree or diploma in Registered Nursing requiredBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferredCertification/Licensure RequirementsRegistered Nurse license requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hireOncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card required within 6 months of hireExperience RequirementsNo prior RN experience requiredNew Graduate RNs Are Welcome to ApplyThis unit welcomes both new graduate nurses and experienced nurses transitioning into oncology or intermediate care. Sentara’s 11-week Transition to Practice program supports the orientation experience with focused knowledge development and hands-on skill acquisition for IMC practice. For new graduates, this program begins a comprehensive 6-month residency designed to support a confident transition into professional nursing practice.
