Job summary

Johnson County Government seeks an On-Call Mental Health Nurse (RN) to support adult and adolescent clients at the Olathe and Shawnee clinics. The role collaborates with clinicians, psychiatrists, service coordinators and direct care staff to meet mental health needs in a 24-hour facility.

The RN provides direct psychiatric services in an outpatient setting, participates in admissions, and supports care coordination, assessments, and education for clients and families.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of education program in Nursing that meets the requirements for the Registered Nurse license.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas; valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Johnson County Mental Health Center is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of On-Call Mental Health Nurse (RN) in both our Olathe Mental Health Clinic (1225 W Spruce St.) and our Shawnee Mental Health Clinic (6440 Nieman Rd.). In conjunction with our Behavioral Health Nursing team, the Mental Health RN will work to help support a 24-hour facility which provides services for adult clients and will assist with admissions at the Youth and Family Services Center which serves adolescents. This position will also work closely with the clinical team of Clinicians, psychiatrists, service coordinators and direct care staff to meet the individual mental health needs of the clients.

The Mental Health Nurse provides direct psychiatric services to both adult and adolescent clients in an out-patient clinic setting.

Job Description

Job Duties includes:

• Provides comprehensive nursing services; assesses the holistic needs of individuals by incorporating family and environmental factors; collects and documents patient health history; measures and records vital signs; administers injections; completes health assessments and performs limited exams; obtains, processes, and handles lab specimens; manages, controls and implements medication administration programs; performs minor procedures and treatments within designated area of specialty.
• Completes and submits documentation regarding client care and condition; reviews quality and effectiveness of services provided and documented by other service providers.
• Provides clients and families with supportive resources; educates patients in areas impacting health, wellness, and daily living activities; develops and provides specialized health training and education to staff.
• Provides support with medical and psychiatric care coordination, makes community referrals and follow-up to individuals and/or families; evaluates outcomes, and makes changes, as necessary.

Job Requirements

Successful completion of education program in Nursing that meets the requirements for the Registered Nurse license; licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Kansas; valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

One year of nursing experience is preferred, though recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
