Job summary

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking an Experienced Registered Nurse to join the Observation Unit on days, full-time, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with 3 twelve-hour shifts.

A sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are available for eligible nurses. This role offers exposure to cardiac, neurological, medical and surgical patient populations, with opportunities for growth in a fast-paced ER-inspired setting and a supportive, team-based culture.

Qualifications

• Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing; ADN requires BSN within 5 years.
• 1 year RN acute care experience required.
• Current Virginia RN license or eNLC eligibility required; BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments and interprets data.
• Forms individualized care plans based on assessments and trends.
• Provides patient- and family-centered care and coordinates transitions.
• Advocates for patient rights and counsels families when needed.
• Coordinates with multidisciplinary teams for patient outcomes.
• Documents care activities per standards and assists with documentation.
• Evaluates care processes and revises plans as needed.
• Makes clinical decisions to promote development of the care team.

The Observation Unit (OBS) at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is comprised of 15 beds with rapid patient turnover and discharges per shift (with patients staying for 24 hours or less). The patient population consists of cardiac, neurological, medical, and surgical patients. This position allows for future professional growth by teaching the fast-paced atmosphere of an ER while strengthening critical skills in a medical/surgical setting. Ideal for candidates who possess strong time management skills, work well in a team -paced settings.

Registered Nurse (RN) Observation Unit Job Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their relationships.
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
• Conducts all patient care in a patient and family centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care.
• Advocates for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective and provides counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues.
• Accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.
• Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.
• Evaluates the process to achieve outcomes, anticipates patient variances and makes revisions to plans of care.
• Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an associate’s degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
• Experience: Requires a minimum of 1-year Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting.
• Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in Observation, Medical Surgical, ED, PCU, or Cardiac Telemetry strongly preferred.
