Job Summary: Responsible to direct, supervise, coordinate all administrative and clinical duties on an assigned shift. Implements, directs and coordinates activities in the facility in an emergency situation until appropriate senior administrative team members arrive.

Job Description:

  • Oversees and maintains operations within organization to ensure a safe patient environment, quality care, positive patient experiences, as well as a safe place to work. Acts as a resource to hospital staff.
  • Initiates and directs proper action during emergency situations inclusive of codes, rapids, BART calls etc. Facilitates scheduling of emergency surgery, procedural cases, and diagnostic studies as per policy. Serves as Incident Commander during Disasters.
  • Facilitates monitoring of quality initiatives within the organization to meet system goals. Facilitates change and acts as a change agent to support and sustain organizational goals.
  • Maintains open communication and fosters positive relationships with patients, visitors, medical staff, associates, and all hospital departments.
  • Communicates pertinent employee, patient, visitor or other information to oncoming supervisor, director, or nurse manager. Requests assistance and direction from nursing administrative leaders and/or administrator on call as appropriate.
  • Oversees management of deceased patients including communication with Life Center, discussions with families, notification of funeral homes, generation of provisional form, coordination of autopsies, and interaction with security regarding release of bodies.
  • Facilitates the acquisition and placement of specialty beds, specialized equipment and supplies. Monitors timely return and documentation.
  • Oversees the management of employee injuries, exposures, and fitness for duty incidents. Communicates pertinent information to Employee Health and the departmental manager.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility by managing the organization's resources in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • BSN Required.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Licensed to practice nursing in the state where work is being performed.
  • Meets contact hour requirements for licensure, including all state-required courses.

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Critical thinking skills and rapid decision-making ability.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge in administering nursing policies.
  • Understands administrative functions of planning, organizing, directing, controlling & evaluating.

Kind and Length of Experience:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in nursing is required. Management experience is preferred.
