Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights, 10E Neurosciences Step Down at WVU Hospitals — Ruby Memorial Hospital. Join to apply for the Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights, 10E Neurosciences Step Down role. This position provides professional nursing care in an inpatient hospital setting and is accountable for the delivery of nursing care through the nursing process.

Responsibilities

• Delivery of nursing care through the nursing process with accountability and independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills at the novice level to provide age-appropriate care across the life span and assess/interpret patient data for age-specific needs.
• Provide patient education based on learning needs and ensure safety and continuity of care using documentation, handoff tools, and processes.
• Create a plan of care using assessment, diagnoses, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes.
• Participate in patient-centered care, document problems and issues in the plan of care, and utilize evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing care.
• Collaborate with interprofessional team, recognize safety concerns, and demonstrate lifelong learning and accountability for delegated nursing care.
• Individualize care based on patient beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn; assess the impact of family dynamics on health and wellness; apply the ANA code of ethics to nursing practice; identify discriminatory practices in culturally diverse populations.

Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

• Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• The Graduate nurse must obtain licensure within 60 days of hire; licenses must be obtained before expiration date of the temporary permit unless prevented by temporary NCLEX testing center closures due to circumstances such as pandemic.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Experience:

• Less than 12 months of nursing experience

Additional Responsibilities

• For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements: completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards (CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation).

Physical Requirements

• Minimize manual patient lifting when possible; transfers and repositioning in alignment with patient profile using lift equipment or approved aids.
• Physical demands include strength and stamina for lifting/moving up to 40+ lbs, standing, walking, and reaching.
• Normal visual and hearing acuity required (assessments of breath sounds and monitors).

Working Environment

• Protracted or irregular hours; exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases; work around the deceased; contact with water and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
