W WVU Medicine as a Registered Nurse for our Orthopedics unit during nighttime hours. This role focuses on providing comprehensive inpatient nursing care, utilizing the nursing process to deliver safe, high‑quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate safety and continuity of care through documentation, handoff tools/processes, and other methods.
- Create plans of care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnoses, intervention, and evaluation.
- Recognize patient safety concerns and utilize appropriate resources.
- Provide education based on each patient’s unique learning needs.
- Incorporate patient individuality and mutuality data into care delivery.
- Perform thorough patient assessment and documentation.
- Use teach‑back methods to evaluate education effectiveness.
- Apply Evidence‑Based Practice (EBP) in nursing care.
- Participate in an organizational patient‑centered care model.
- Document problems and issues in the plan of care.
- Grow in caring for complex patients by consulting with experienced colleagues.
- Commit to lifelong learning through self‑reflection and inquiry.
- Maintain accountability for delegated nursing care.
- Recognize scope of practice for all interprofessional team members.
- Collect holistic, culturally sensitive data.
- Assess the impact of family dynamics on healthcare and wellness.

Physical Requirements
- Minimize manual patient lifting; limit to 35 lbs where possible. Use lift equipment or aids as needed.
- Perform heavy/hard work: lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, carry equipment and materials weighing 40+ lbs.
- Maintain visual acuity within the normal range.
- Maintain hearing within normal range.
Working Environment
- Work protracted or irregular hours.
- Examine biohazards and infectious diseases.
- Handle deceased patients.
- Work with hands in water.
- Operate electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state of service location or current multi‑state RN license via the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
Experience
- Less than 12 months of experience as a registered nurse.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.

The CAPE (Clinical Advancement Program) is a system‑wide clinical ladder for professional development and job satisfaction. Levels 1–6 describe experience, education, certifications, and required competencies such as charge nurse roles, precepting, QI, and governance participation.
