Job Descriptions
Clinical Nurse II

This role demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. Responsibilities include assisting the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and providing comfort. The nurse recognizes patient condition changes and intervenes appropriately, mobilizes resources to meet individual needs, provides direction, education, and assumes leadership at the unit level. Delivers and documents age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans, and safely administers medications, identifying interactions or incompatibilities.

Clinical Nurse III

This role demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level, applying it to a specific patient population. Responsibilities mirror those of the Clinical Nurse II, with added emphasis on anticipating patient needs, serving as a role model, and providing leadership within the clinical setting. Delivers and documents age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans, and safely administers medications, identifying interactions or incompatibilities.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state for Clin I, II, III
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment
Experience
  • Clin I: N/A
  • Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
  • Clin III: 3 years clinical experience
Preferred Experience
  • Clin I: Experience as LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in acute care or relevant practice area
  • Clin II, III: Healthcare experience with similar patient populations in acute care or relevant practice area
Education/Training
  • Diploma or Associate Degree from an approved nursing program for all levels
  • All RNs without a Bachelor's degree must enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years, unless grandfathered
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher; Clin III: Certification in specialty area
Independent Actions

Follows physician/licensed provider orders, practices within Virginia nursing regulations, guided by ANA Code of Ethics, national standards, and institutional policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Organizes work, delegates, and supervises others including RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, and administrative staff across all levels.

Additional Requirements
  • Availability for all shifts, weekends, and holidays; schedules to be established with management
  • Shift rotations and hours may be adjusted as needed
