Registered Nurse (RN) - Neuro Telemetry

Position Summary
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a skilled and compassionate
Registered Nurse (RN) to join the
Neuro Telemetry Unit at our esteemed partner medical facility in
Everett, WA. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work various shifts (Days/Nights) and FTEs, providing specialized nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with a wide range of neurological conditions requiring continuous cardiac monitoring and frequent neurological assessments. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of acute care nursing experience and a strong commitment to patient safety, evidence-based practice, and collaborative care.
Key Details
- Unit: 32-bed Neurology Telemetry Unit
- Schedule: Full-Time; Multiple shifts available (Day and Night, likely 12-hour shifts). Various FTE options (e.g., 0.9 FTE).
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in an acute care setting.
- Licensure/Certifications: Active Washington RN License and BLS (AHA) required upon hire. ACLS and NIHSS certification required within 90 days of hire.

Key Responsibilities- Clinical Practice & Patient Management (Nursing Professional Practice):
- Perform comprehensive neurological and cardiovascular assessments on patients admitted to the Neuro Telemetry unit.
- Continuously monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms via telemetry, promptly identifying and responding to arrhythmias and other critical changes according to established protocols.
- Administer medications safely, including those specific to neurological and cardiac conditions, monitoring for therapeutic effects and potential side effects.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, focusing on achieving patient goals and optimizing outcomes, particularly for stroke and other neurological patients.
- Perform and maintain currency in essential nursing competencies specific to the neuro telemetry patient population.
- Patient Advocacy (Advocates):
- Effectively advocate for ethical and holistic care, partnering in care planning to promote the autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs of patients and their families.
- Education & Learning Facilitation (Facilitates Learning):
- Foster a supportive learning environment for patients and their families, providing education on neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, seizures), telemetry monitoring, medications, recovery, and preventative measures.
- Contribute to the learning of nursing colleagues, other healthcare team members, and students.
- Safety, Quality & Evidence-Based Practice (Aligns Practice with Safety and Quality):
- Maintain accountability for patient safety, including implementing fall prevention strategies, seizure precautions, and monitoring for complications related to neurological deficits.
- Proactively identify and correct potential problems, integrating evidence-based practices and research into nursing care to improve patient outcomes.
- Align patient safety, self-safety, and environmental safety as equally important for achieving the best outcomes.
- Professional Growth & Leadership (Engages in Professional Development & Leads in the Practice Setting):
- Engage in ongoing professional development and practice to the full scope of licensure within the legal parameters of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, and specialty nursing standards (e.g., neuroscience nursing, stroke care).
- Promote a culture of inquiry that explores, integrates, and disseminates research and evidence-based practices relevant to neuro telemetry care.
- Lead and coordinate care within the nursing team, delegate tasks appropriately, and collaborate effectively with neurologists, neurosurgeons, therapists, and other members of the inter-professional care team.
- Model professional behaviors as a representative of the nursing profession.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
- Current, unrestricted Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) License upon hire.
- Current National Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
- National Provider ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certificate from an approved training course to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience in an acute care setting (e.g., medical-surgical, telemetry, step-down, neurology, or critical care).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- National Certification in a relevant area of specialty (e.g., Stroke Certified Registered Nurse - SCRN, Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse - CNRN, Progressive Care Certified Nurse - PCCN) upon hire or willingness to obtain.
- Prior experience working on a dedicated neurology or telemetry unit.
