This is a 20 bed Neuro Acute Floor focusing on many neurological disorders under three services: Neurosurgery, General Neurology, and Stroke Neurology. Some diagnoses include ischemic stroke, epilepsy, autoimmune disorders, cervical fusions, lumbar fusions, etc. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Charge RNs, all working 12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a). The nursing team collaborates with other services to safely discharge patients to home or rehab. Patients range from medically ready for discharge to those requiring longer hospital stays. Skills utilized here include cardiac rhythm interpretation, neurological assessments, spinal cord assessments, pre-op and post-op education, surgical dressing changes, surgical drains, wounds, and tracheostomy care.
