Job Summary

Performs evaluation, stabilization, and critical care management of patients transported from outlying hospitals under protocol and/or SC EMS laws. Provides operational support to ensure transport services meet all personnel, equipment, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

• Performs detailed physical assessments, establishes care plans, and performs advanced critical care stabilization for transported patients following protocols approved by Medical Control and SC DHEC EMS.
• Communicates effectively with families, referring physicians, hospital staff, and EMS personnel.
• Maintains and follows up on equipment and supplies to ensure system readiness.
• Provides written transport follow-up to referring physicians/hospitals; collects data for regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and patient satisfaction.
• Accurately analyzes and reports blood gas results, performs blood gas analyzer quality control, and initiates umbilical venous catheter insertion as needed.
• Performs duties on helicopter or ambulance transports.
• Provides comprehensive reports to Medical Control and makes recommendations during transports.
• Acts responsibly with resources, including supplies and time.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management role reporting to a supervisor, manager, or director.

Minimum Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing
• Three (3) years of nursing experience, preferably in ICU or ER settings.

In Lieu Of

• Four (4) years of paramedic experience plus one (1) year of ICU or ER RN experience can substitute for the nursing experience requirement.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• Licensed RN in South Carolina
• Special Purpose EMT (to be obtained after hire)
• ACLS, NRP, and PALS within one year of hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Effective communication skills
• Ability to obtain blood gases from all sites
