Job summary

Hartford Hospital in Connecticut is seeking an ICU Registered Nurse for the Bliss 7 Medical ICU. Under the supervision of a Critical Care Pulmonologist, you will care for patients with complex acute medical issues in a fast‑paced environment.

The unit operates 24 hours a day with a multidisciplinary team including PAs, APNs, RNs, and residents. This full‑time nights role involves 36 hours per week with every‑other weekend and holiday commitments, offering growth within Hartford HealthCare.

Qualifications

• Current Connecticut RN license required.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN required.
• BLS certification required prior to hire.
• Minimum of one year acute care RN experience preferred.
• Graduate Nurses may be considered via the Critical Care Graduate Nurse Program.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to ICU patients with complex acute medical issues.
• Work under the supervision of a Critical Care Pulmonologist in a 24/7 team.
• Collaborate with physicians, PAs, APNs, RNs, and residents to deliver high‑quality care.

This posting is on Bliss 7 ICU, the Medical Intensive Care Unit which is a 12‑bed unit that provides care to patients with a wide range of complex, highly acute medical issues. These issues include but are not limited to; respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver injury/failure, kidney injury/failure, sepsis, and drug and alcohol withdrawal. Under the supervision of a Critical Care Pulmonologist, the unit is staffed 24 hours a day with a team of Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and medical house staff physicians consisting of interns and residents.

In the Medical ICU, our goal is to develop our staff into well‑rounded, highly skilled medical professionals. The unit will push you to your limits as you will be working in a fast‑paced environment where your critical thinking, vast medical knowledge, clear communication, and your extensive skillset will be challenged and grown.

Qualifications

• Current Connecticut RN License.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (BSN Required).
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association required prior to date of hire.
• Minimum one year acute care RN experience strongly preferred.
• In exceptional circumstances, Registered Nurses with an ASN/ADN who are currently in pursuit of a BSN or MSN may be considered.
• Graduate Nurses are encouraged to apply through the Critical Care Graduate Nurse Program.
