Summary

9K sign on bonus for qualified candidates. Works under the supervision of the Med-Surg Nurse Manager. The Staff RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual patient care on the nursing unit according to established policies, procedures and guidelines. Accepts responsibility for the direction of co‑workers in the implementation of the patients plan of care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

These responsibilities are weighted as follows:

• (50%) Provides nursing care using the Nursing Process by: completing nursing assessment of patient and documenting appropriately in the patient chart; develops a plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient; implements plan of care and documents in the chart.
• (30%) Evaluates patients' response to care and updates plan of care.
• (20%) Oversees the delegation of specifics of the patient plan of care to unit staff.

Other duties and responsibilities:

• Engages in patient/family teaching as appropriate.
• Maintains professional standards by participating in educational opportunities and performance improvement activities.
• Communicates with the health care team.
• Adheres to unit/department budgetary practices.

Certifications and Licensures

• Credential: RN – Registered Nurse (Essential: true)
• Credential: BLS – Basic Life Support (Essential: true) – Equivalent Experience: within 1 month of hire or transfer; Qualification Source: AHA
• Credential: TEAM ADVANCED – Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt (Essential: true) – Equivalent Experience: within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 8/1/2024 will have 24 months to complete this certification)

Required Education

• Education: Associate – Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred (Essential: true)

Experience, Training, and Skills

Experience: Two years general Medical‑Surgical/Charge Nurse experience required.

Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and co‑workers.

Physical / Mental Requirements

• Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief and death.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or an appropriate substitute if required for your position.
• Is able to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
• Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted devices.
• Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
• Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling; may require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
• Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0–33% of the workday) lift or carry 21–50 lbs.; frequently (34–66% of the workday) 20 lbs.; and constantly (67–100% of the workday) 10 lbs.
